Fieldhands

For readers of The Field, to gather face to face

awright.. i know this is a little frivvy and stuff but I did not know what to say to a woman who made a snide comment about Michelle Obama's penchant for sleeveless dresses! I did say ..well it's summer and 2008 and I think she wears it well.
please don't tell me this is going to be another annoying thing the right is going to pick at. I'm going to have to get geared up with comeback comments. I work in a mid-size office with lots of women and conservatives. I try hard to leave political leanings out of the work place and play it quiet most of the time. but i'm going to have to beef up my come back lines.. so as time goes on i hope you folks can help me...

i've heard it all lately. it's shocking to me ...work mates i know well and am endeared to will come up and say things that are just garbage. I guess this political race is going to bring the worst out of the worst.

AggroLee-- you can check out the Framing forum & there is another one started by Dulce Mia in the forum section that gets into good comebacks.

On the bare arms .. whew! I doubt that it will be an issue because she has such great media placement about her dress sense. I think it a bit more revealing than any other first lady... although I think Jackie O wore sleeveless alot?
Back to your work, you might want to start into the narratives that relate to Christianity. Have to check out the Framing forum for more details on that.

Hey AggroLee. Mid once pointed out to me that people tend to want to talk about human issues. I think she is so right. So that's got to be what's up here. Any ground is fertile ground to talk with people abt Obama right? I think your response about the heat is perfect. I think it's an avenue to use for a possible redirect to global warming. I mean at this rate, we will all have to wear tank tops in January. You know another interesting strategy with the women in the office might be to suggest that Michelle isn't dressing flashy enough for your taste. That she doesn't go glammy enough. That she seems a little too conservative a dresser next to Cindy. Maybe they would identify more with her that way, if they are conservative dressers and they hear someone saying Michelle's attire appears conservative. And finally, I would even consider a comparison compliment. i.e.: "Lisa, you wore a sleeveless shirt to lunch on Friday and you looked gorgeous, you were polished yet casual, who could Blame Michelle for making a similar selection?"
