Planning on going to the LV area? We're going, and have room for 2 in the car. Have lodging (family), but are unable to offer additional couch-space for passengers (there are other solutions to that, though).

Turns out by the time we made all prearrangements and finally signed up @ campaign site, capacity was full. We're still looking to go and work w/ local efforts there. Will post updates as I get word about canvassing work.

This is an email from my son Ben (Obama Fellow working out of the LV Northwest Office). They need L.A. volunteers for GOTV starting Oct 18:

"There is no doubt about, we need volunteers. I know that it is confusing to communicate with the major office because they are so busy, but I can tell you from the ground level that we can never have enough. We are working around the clock and are about to start a big GET-OUT-THE-VOTE campaign October 18th. This is basically the last push and we want to go strong to the finish. We therefore need our own army of volunteers at all times, but especially on the weekends. Housing and carpooling can be arranged at

Oct 18-31 is early voting in the greater Las Vegas area. Don't know if that's so statewide, but it is in LV area. I got a brochure from my trip last weekend that details when and where. Basically, all the big malls have early voting the entire two weeks that it's available.

When I was canvassing, I talked w/ one woman about it and she was planning to, since she's caring for two elderly parents, one of whom is wheelchair bound. I told others of my experience in the June election -- my Dad was in the hospital, and so I didn't get to vote since it'd take a 50-mile drive to get to my polling place.... an unexpected event that makes early/absentee voting a worthwhile thing.

More info from Clark County elections department: Go to http://www.accessclarkcounty.com/elections Look for the General Election Information link (top of right hand featured sidebar); which takes you to a page where the Early Voting is the first item featured. You can see/download a PDF document that tells you when and where. I've also heard that the http://www.voteforchange.com/ will direct you to info about early voting too, but I've not gone through all the steps to see that (I'd have to enter a nevada street address and an email address before it would do that, I think)

I went this past weekend and it was amazing. Go to 4440 Durango in Las Vegas if you get lost. They have a really organized office and will send you out to canvas, or keep you in to make phone calls. Nevada early voting starts Oct. 18 and they are trying to get out the vote.

I met all kinds of great people. Go do it and GOTV!
