Any of you NC folk still out there? I don't know if you've seen, but it looks like Al's coming our way after the Virginia swing and we might want to see what we can do to get ourselves organized to help him help us out. I'm in the Triad area, I know we've got some folks in the Triangle and out in Asheville too. Can we come up with some suggestions to make this a fruitful visit? There's a thread up over at The Field, but I'll start one up on the forums here too for our NC-only purposes.

Greetings fellow earthlings:

Given the absolutely 'blue sky' idealism of the Obama campaign spirit, I would like to hear back from anybody who finds my personal perspective persuasive.

I am supporting the Obama candidacy because I believe American militarism is the gravest threat to America today. And quickly, before any minds close, by "American militarism" I mean the "dark side of the force", the seductive destruction of contractual civil culture by the opportunism of power. Ever since the unCivil War our original English Enlightenment founding concepts have been eroded by ever more centralized power lusting. Case in point: the freezing of Congress at 435 members.

Nationalism was the big thing after the unCivil War. Then fighting European royalism/fascism took us through two world wars. Then the Cold War brought us to today's New World Order where we are finding ourselves ever more imperialistic because of oil, and/or religion.

Unlike Christian Zionists, I do not want to see us using Israel as a proxy nuclear bomber in the middle east so that "the end of days" can begin while "Onward Christian Soldiers" all march gloriously to incineration at Armegeddon.

Instead, I'd like to see Obama elected so that at least half a dozen of our endless/unwinnable wars can be declared finished and the financial drain of militarism can taper off.

I'd like to see Obama start with ending ( Nixon's ) war on drugs, then end the war on Cancer ( Nixon's other war ), even end Johnson's war on poverty, Carter's "moral equivalent of war", and every war president's agendas since. That includes the misnamed War on Crime that tries to make EVERYTHING a crime with mandatory prison time and no judicial discretion at sentancing, etc. etc.

End of rant:

That's just my anti-militarism speaking. May peace be with you, and not "the force".

Hey gang,

Just reminding everyone to sign the petition to get Al his credentials for Denver. It was created yesterday by Pam (waterprise2), and can be found here:
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/credential-al-giordano.html

So far there are only two NC signatures on it.

For those who are unaware of Al's new digs:

Yea thats very exciting, Ryan. That would be huge to get NC.

And then Kos himself posts further about those encouraging Rasmussen NC numbers. New voter registration and GOTV can most definitely, as Kate suggested, turn NC blue this fall.

Very interesting diary at Daily Kos that really should be an incentive for us to be a particularly active Fieldhands local. :)

Hello all! I'm moving to Winston-Salem in less than a month and thought I'd go ahead and sign up for the "local."
