I'm hoping to attend.

I have friends and family in the area, though, so that may end up being more economical for me.

Does anyone know about Denver's public transit options?

Reply to This

Wow - that does look good. Count me in Patrick. What set up would be best? If we can get a reservation - then I can set up/help etc with a deposit.

Anyone else??

Janey

Excellent - do we need to send you money for the deposit? Or, do you want me to take care of the deposit? Just let me know! EXCELLENT.

I can't remember where I saw a query about public transportation, but here's info- Denver has a quite good site for its transit system, RTD, for Regional Transportation District. Take a look at http://rtd-denver.com. There is a trip planner thingie, and a grid of system maps, as well as schedules for each route. Note that under the System Maps heading, you can ask to have a system map snailed to you.

They tend to stop running kind of early in the night, between 10 and 1am or so, depending on the size of the line. Keep an eye on that in the schedules.

LUXURY DIGS IN DENVER: Deb in Colorado here. I have a friend who will rent his loft located right down near the Pepsi Center. It's a one bedroom. Could sleep up to 4 with an air mattress in the living room. Great location in the Riverfront development . Walk or ride the light rail just about anywhere in the downtown Denver area. Security bldg. He's asking $700/night, negotiable. I need to find out which building it's in. If you are interested, post a reply comment. I'll find out which building and add the owner's email contact later.

Damn Deb. I know we're in the spotlight for the foreclosure crisis, but I don't even pay that much in rent in a month. You're going to be staying in LODO during the event, right? Or at the Hyatt near the convention center with the delegation?

Either way Field Hands, I have a small house down the street from the convention center, and within about 20min walking/light rail distance to the Pepsi Center for those who still have no where to say. The two rooms in the house will be occupied, but there's couch and floor space for a couple of people. My roommate and I would probably prefer females for safety reasons. I also have two permitted parking passes to park on the street outside, which could be useful for the drivers who are staying downtown. There's wifi and one cat.

Also, as Dave has alluded to, there's a free buss that drives down 16th street from Colfax and Broadway all the way to lower downtown right next to the Pepsi Center. The city also penned a press release today saying that the light rail will remain open throughout the convention.

Damn is right. I told the guy it was a lot to ask, that's why he added 'negotiable'. He also said that 'others are charging much more'. It's not my place. I'm just relaying a message for a friend. I'll be at the Hyatt with the Colorado delegation. Is rent really less than $700/mo in Denver? I have lived in the mountains so long, I don't know what rent in Denver is. A studio here is $700/month, and rare.

Oh, it's possible. Depending on where you live of course.

Hi all -

Thanks to Ann, Deb, Erin and the prior posters for helping everyone (especially ME as I always need help) keep up with what is going on in Denver. Please keep it up.

I have a terrible need to keep lists and organize everybody. So, I am hoping that everyone who lives now in Denver - who wants to contribute ideas, items, time, etc - and those going to the Convention or part of the Fieldhands Posse (and that was Al's idea...just saying Al...) will keep posting here with everything you can add and think of.

Thanks all,
Janey

Perhaps this is the best place to post re: staying in Denver.

I've got a free futon in my midsized apartment for dedicated fieldhand(s) if someone needs a place to stay. According to Google Maps I'm 2.6 miles away, but if you use the 16th St. shuttle, a bike, or other public transportation it should be fast and easy to get around. I spoke with my landlord and the garage is full, so you'd need to park on the street. If the need arises, however, I could park my car on the street before folks start coming to town and donate my indoor parking spot.

Gordie: I have a storage unit in my basement. As long as you ship things sufficiently in advance I'll gladly store anything shipped my way to be held until your arrival. You could send it directly, or if you'd rather ship it the UPS hub in Commerce City I can pick it up from there.

To be clear, I'm a guy, so for obvious reasons I'd prefer that any women who take me up on the lodging offer not come alone. It's sad, but we are organizing via the internet, and I don't want to create any potential appearance of impropriety. (Yea, this is total CYA)

Let me summarize:
- I have a storage unit if anyone wants to ship anything ahead of time.
- I'll be working at least one shift at the Pepsi Center, for an NGO, but I'm reserving the rest of the time for reporting wherever I'm needed. I'm open to suggestions.
- I'd be happy to host folks in my decently sized apartment in the Cap. Hill neighborhood, but if you are a woman you probably need to have a friend staying with you. (I hate that, that's the world that we live in.)

As I've said before, let me know what the Denver bound fieldhands need and I'll do it.

IF anyone is interested, two more friends notified me of places to stay in Denver.

Here is info on a big house. Email follows: "Hi Debbie, I wanted to drop a line real quick to let you know that my neighbor, at 7172 Wolff Street, (map) just a few houses from the corner if 72nd/Wolff, is looking to rent his house out for the DNC. He is leaving on vacation and it is available from August 22-Septmber 7. It has 5 bedrooms, four with full/queen sized beds and one with a twin. It also has 3 bathrooms and air conditioning. He wants $4,000 for the 2 weeks. Let me know if you know anyone who might be interested, seemed like a good deal for a group who might be coming early and staying late and/or a big group. We would also work something out for transportation, if needed, as my wife has a minivan and I have a Trailblazer, or can borrow another minivan. "

The second one is in the Capitol Hill area owned by a state legislator. She has a studio apartment near the state capitol. (She lives in the mountains and doesn't use it much when the general assembly is not in session.) From her email: 17th and Logan, one room studio, that can sleep two easily, there is a pull out couch and a bed. I would be happy to rent it to folks during the convention week - preferably someone that needs a place that is a volunteer or something. I am thinking that to be fair the cost should be maybe $1000 for a week since it easily sleeps two people. If we find a good person that only wants it for 5 nights, I will reduce the price so the price would be around $150 per night total (they can sleep as many as they want to, I don't care). I am sure that this is cheaper than a hotel and they can use mass transit to get to the Pepsi Center, plus pay to park in the garage below, at $5 per night."

That's all the new rentals I know of. Please email me or post a comment here if you are interested I can put you in touch with the people who contacted me. All the notices I have posted are from people I know, so they should be reliable. I check in daily most of the time.

Deb,
I have not been able to discern a demand for one large house. Right now, it looks like I might be the only one coming in from out of town for this...I might be wrong but that is what I know today.

I am interested in the studio - can you put me in touch with your friend?
